Many Great Ways To Experience Cowboy Style Fun With Las Vegas Horseback Tours

When some people think about Las Vegas, they don’t picture casinos and the famous ’strip’. They picture saloons and gunfights, women in dresses from a bygone era, and train robberies. In other words, they picture the Old Wild West. To them, a trip to the city can mean only one thing: horseback riding in the desert, cowboy-style. Week-end and holiday cowboys from coast to coast, and some from abroad as well, flock to the city for the genuine cowboy experience that only Las Vegas horseback tours can give them.

Old Nevada is a replica of an authentic 1880’s mining town. It is part of the Bonnie Springs ranch located approximately half an hours’ ride from the city. The ranch takes visitors out riding on the historic trails that are found in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area several times a day. Most rides wrap up with a real cowboy meal when you get back to the ranch.

Breakfast rides take you out into the desert in time to watch it as it wakes up and comes to life. After a ride of about an hour and a half, you return to the ranch for a full breakfast. If you prefer to have breakfast and then go riding, there are later rides that are available.

Lunch rides let you experience the desert in the stillness of the day. Mid-day is when you get to really see the desert’s vibrant colors, and will come to understand first-hand why the area is call ‘Red Rock’. On your return to the ranch, you are served a real western-style lunch.

Dinner rides take you out into Red Rock Canyon during mid-afternoon. Aside from the spectacular scenery, you will get to see the beauty of a desert sky as sunset approaches. A western dinner at the ranch follows the ride.

After your day on the trails is done, you can head over to Old Nevada for some Old West-style fun. The mining town-replica stages simulated melodramas at the local saloon, as well as gunfights and hangings. Children will have a great time at the petting zoo, while on holidays and weekends there is a mock posse that they can take part in. Sights in the village include a wax museum and a wedding chapel. There’s also plenty of shopping for those visitors wanting to take home souvenirs.

About forty-five minutes outside of the city is another great horseback riding location. The Sandy Valley Ranch offers a full-day ranch experience designed to give you an authentic taste of cowboy life. Your day starts off with a morning ride in the Mojave Desert, followed by a light lunch. During the afternoon, you head back out to the desert for a cattle-drive, followed by some cowboy games when you’re done, then it’s off for a sunset ride. When you get back, you will be put to work helping to pen the cattle before wrapping up your day with a genuine western barbecue.

Anyone wanting to combine a little romance with their cowboy experience can opt for a sunset ride and barbecue, followed by a sleepover in a covered wagon. In the morning, you get to collect your own breakfast-eggs.

Anyone looking for the Old West is going to find it on Las Vegas horseback tours. They are certain to bring the cowboy out in even the most reticent person.

Spring Marks Interest In Old Spanish Trail – Vegas Horseback Tours Reigns In Record Reservations

While many areas across the United States are experiencing winter-like weather, Las Vegas visitors are enjoying seasonal temperatures in the mid to high 70s. The near-perfect weather has created a surge in reservations just 15 miles west of Las Vegas.

Vegas Horseback Tours is setting new records, with its variety of Las Vegas horseback trail rides that follow the same trails as Mexican caravans between 1829 and 1848. The Old Spanish Trail, which was originally established by Native American footpaths that crossed the West, led traders and frontiersmen from Santa Fe to Los Angeles.

“There were three routes that spanned southern Nevada: the Armijo route, Mojave route, and the main route that crossed through Las Vegas and what we now know as the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area,” said Ruben Villegas,  Las Vegas Horseback Specialist. “The trails fell out of use after the Mexican-American War, which made them ideal for many outlaws we associate with the wild West.”

According to Ruben, most of the commercial routes were established by Jose Francisco Armijo, who was among the first to accept the challenge of establishing a direct land route between the provinces as a merchant. The average journey lasted six to eight weeks. One route preserved by the Old Spanish Trail Association is named after Armijo.

Prior, portions of the Old Spanish Trail were also used by Jedediah Smith, Kit Carson, and Etienne Provost. These early traders connected ancient Native American trails that were used by the Ute, Paiute, Comanche, and Navajo people. Today, some mule train trails can be identified by tracks only 36 inches wide whereas wagon trails are six feet across.

Vegas Horseback Tours features its Old Spanish Trail ride during a four-hour tour that includes up to two hours of saddle time and lunch. Lunch consists of a chicken sandwich or hamburger, baked beans, potato salad or french fries. The tour also includes a stop at nearby Bonnie Springs Ranch and its petting zoo.

“We attribute the record reservations to people looking to connect with our country’s history as well as horseback riding enthusiasts who haven’t been riding in the cold weather in the East,” said Ruben. “What I love so much about it is that it brings a variety of people with very different interests together.”

All excursions also include complimentary pick-up and drop-off from Strip hotels. A limited number of horses are available per tour. For reservations and more information, call 888.584.9059 (local 702-664-2585) or visit Las Vegas Horseback Tours.

Ecotourism Leads Tourism Trends — Vegas Horseback Tours Opens New Group Package

With ecotourism (nature tourism) and sporting events becoming a driving force behind choosing a holiday destination in 2010 , Vegas Horseback Tours is adding a small group package to keep up with increased demand.

new package, designed for groups of 20 to 50 people, is ideal for family reunions, social clubs, travel incentives, and corporate team building.

The ride includes a two hour Las Vegas horseback trail ride in Red Rock Canyon National Conversation Area, which is just a short 15-mile drive west of Las Vegas. A cowboy-style lunch is included: pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, and rolls. The price is $129 per person.

“With people taking fewer days for vacations and business meetings, everyone is looking for more diversity from the destinations they choose,” says Ruben Villegas a Las Vegas Horseback Tour Specialist. “For the last several years, horseback riding has steadily increased in popularity as more people want something in addition to big hotels and casinos while visiting Las Vegas. Las Vegas and Nevada were once a very important part of the wild, wild west.”

One of the most striking features of Las Vegas Horseback Tours is the rare viewpoint it provides riders to see Red Rock Canyon, best known for its red and white sandstone peaks and walls that make up the Keystone Thrust. Most trails are not open to the more than one million people who visit every year.

“We take riders out on trails that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has only authorized for our tours,” Ruben Villegas said. “This keeps the environmental impact to a minimum while giving riders a unique perspective to see the entire area from high up atop a saddle just like it was seen more than 100 years ago. Anyone who shares this experience develops a unique bond, especially if they happen across a heard of wild horses.”

Wild horses, particularly mustangs, have become a controversial subject in the area since the BLM
began its eight-week plan to relocate more than 2,500. While Las Vegas Horseback Tours condones the move to prevent overpopulation, such operations decrease the chance that riders will see them firsthand.

“The best time to see wild horses is right now,” Ruben Villegas said.

All excursions also include complimentary pick-up and drop-off from Strip hotels. There is a limited number of horses available per tour. For reservations and more information, call toll free 888.584.9059 (local 702-664-2585) or visit www.vegashorsebacktours.com.
